Weapons

From Himitsu no Sensou

For the sake of convenience, all physical combat forms usable by characters in himitsu are divided into eleven disciplines.

Unarmed

Learned by those who think they'll need to grapple in places they can't have weapons -- or those who never learned a weapon. Generally known mostly to those who deal with rough people -- lower/middle class merchants, for instance -- those low in society, and soliders. (note the difference between a soldier and a knight.) Useful in bar fights and scuffles.

Swords

The standard weapon of Eire. The majority of all melee combat trained fighter types should have some knowledge of this. Rapiers are included in this.

Knives/Daggers

Generally used by those who keep them for a last resort, those who engage in activies that could require them to defend themselves at close range without the intent of doing so. Also considered a "cowardly" and low class weapon, especially by Dentorians.

Lances

Standard weapon for mounted fighters. Most commonly used by mounted fighters everywhere and Dentorians in general. It's a "classy" weapon, a gentleman's weapon.

Quarterstaves

Considered more benevolent than the rest of the weapons common to Eire, from those who need to defend themselves but prefer to knock out rather than kill. Journeyman priests are common users. Also commonly used in sparring. Many knights, especially Dentorian and Korin, would know how to use them.

Maces

A fairly standard weapon for military-oriented countries such as Dentoria and Korin. Should be more common than axes overall. Doesn't require as much training, agility, or finesse as a sword or lance, and easier to carry and less ungaingly than an axe. Includes most blugeoning weapon types, morningstars, hammers, etc.

Axes

A niche melee weapon used by those who have the strength to use it who want extra brutality in their fighting style.

Whips

An Atsirian weapon. In high use by nomads. There are rumours that may or may not be true of nomad women whipping their men for bad behaviour, but their whips are mostly used to train horses and harry bandits. Only Atsiria considers this a real weapon and it sees little circulation elsewhere.

Long/Shortbow

Long distance weapon. Often used by hunters, nomads and a high class. Archery is considered a sport among the Eire gentry, and thus it's fairly common to see nobles both male and female with the skill for it.

Crossbow

Used only by Kanemorians, Dentorians, Koriners, and Megami. Atsirians, Kilians, and Hanalanfolk stick to traditional bows. A military, blunt, ungraceful approach to ranged combat. Less precision and range than normal bows, but easier to use.

Thrown Weapons

See Daggers, sorta, only from long range. Considered even more cowardly than daggers -- a noblewoman could keep a knife of her person to defend her honour in times of trouble, but would never have a thrown weapon. Includes knives, darts, etc.
