[edit] Summary
Shasta was a Pillar of Light who grew up on the streets of Norey. A man named Kyle taught her how to survive, but when she found out he was a Messenger of Darkness, she slit his throat and was filled with guilt for the rest of her life. She joined organized crime and became a guard for Lucas. The two of them fell in love, and by the time Lucas told her he was a Messenger, it'd gone to far to stop. She kept an eye on Lucas with the journals while his memory was lost, and eventually helped him regain his indentidy -- all of it. After the destruction of Norey, she was killed in her sleep by Lucas.

[edit] History
Born to an unknown and a no-one-knew, in a gutter or whorehouse or alleyway, weaned on corruption, grit, and laughter, Shasta is a true daughter of Kanemoria. Growing up in the shady districts of Norey, no parents, no siblings, no real friends, Shasta learned to fend for herself, drifting from group to group, learning to fight, steal, and keep herself alive. Naturally strong, smart, and fast, to boot, she made 'friends' fast.
After her first gang tricked her and left her for dead, a scoundrel named Kyle picked her up and took her in, teaching her the ways of the world and how to make the best of her skills. The two of them grew incredibly close, Kyle becoming the father figure Shasta had never had in her life. When Kyle informed her he was a Messenger of Darkness, Shasta kept quiet, then slit his throat when he slept. She was racked by guilt ever since, and swore she'd never do it again.
At first, her groups were mostly gangs who stuck together for safety in numbers. Then she moved on to the smaller crime rings, who contrived robberies of smaller venues, and escalated the ladder until she was working with the big shots, who dealt in kidnappings, fraud, cons, high scale robberies, minor treasons, assassinations, whatever paid. The last and most recent she joined was one of the toughest and yet most obscure groups in the country, nameless, with only half-loyalties, near impossible to trace, near impossible to afford, near impossible to defeat.
It was with them that she was appointed to guard the recently kidnapped Lucas of Norey, the son of the powerful Councilor Rickon. She was never told his identidy, just that it was important that he not escape, and that he was planned to be ransomed. What started as a simple assignment quickly became more when Lucas and Shasta began talking, only knowing one another as L and S. She found herself drawn to him, and this connection only grew as they talked. Shasta found herself slowly falling for her charge, to her horror, and he seemed to be returning the feelings.
He told her his secret one night, and, refusing to do what she'd done before again, she told him hers as well.
Though she told herself it was because she couldn't justify her continued support of L's imprisonment, she knew her real reasons well enough. Lucas was under her supervison and bound hand and foot. She didn't trust herself to know where he was. She engineered an escape for him.
However, something went wrong in L's escape. He was greatly injured in his flight, and ended up in Colndor. Shasta monitored him for years via the journals, which she had always had, believing his amnesia to be an act, but uncomfortably unsure why he wasn't going back to Norey. As the rest of the gang started to put together the pieces of where he was, Shasta began to contact him, warning him to change his position.
He didn't do so fast enough. Shasta soon found herself L's warden again ... only now, all he could remember was her name -- or rather, her initial. None of what they have previously shared was with him. Shasta struggled to come to terms with what this meant for her still very present love for him -- as well as her complete knowledge that he was a Messenger of Darkness and she was a Pillar of Light.
Before much time passed again, Shasta once again risked her reputation and career to allow L to escape again, but before he did so, finally received his name: Lucas.
She spent months trying to discover Lucas' identidy from her employers, while keeping contact with him over the journals and never revealing their past together until Lucas was returning to Norey, when she finally began to suspect who he was and couldn't hold it in anymore. Days later, Lucas met with his father, and all his memories -- including everything he and Shasta had ever told one another -- flooded back.
Since then, Lucas and Shasta had been seeing one another in secret, well aware of what it could cost them. Shasta lost her gang and her job in the destruction of Norey, but thanks to Lucas largely managed to stay afloat. He rented an apartment under his name for her to live in and supplied her with money. They continued to see one another, until one night, she told him the story of Kyle, and requested in the subtlest way she could that he end this before she had to.
After she went to sleep, Lucas snapped her neck.
[edit] Personality
Shasta came across as friendly, laid back, casual, with something of an inappropriately ironic sense of humour. She presented an extremely lassiez faire stance on life, what will be, will be, you take it all with a shake of the head, a chuckle, and a set jaw. What never hits you can never bruise you, and if you stumble everytime you take a hit, well, you don't get up too often on the streets.
Despite her tough exteriour and big girl talk, Shasta was really very introverted and reflective, dwelling unhealthily on the past, the present, the future, and her plethora of worries about all of it. She also had a very strong guilt complex in regards to what she had done to Kyle. She prefered being alone and thinking to being among others and having fun, though she didn't like this to be known, and didn't encourage it in herself. A lone animal dies while a pack survives, after all, and if she wanted to be accepted by a pack, she had to prove that she wasn't faint of heart or weak.
Close, personal, one on one connections are something that she values greatly, but these relationships have always had a tendancy of ending badly for her.
While definitely a dreamer, Shasta was ultimately extremely realistic and accepted that her dreams had no place in reality.
[edit] Relationships
Kyle, a father figure for her, whose motto "When you do something stupid and get lucky, doesn't make it less stupid," Shasta made her philosophy on life after killing him.
Lucas, her lover and murderer.
Crow, Lucas' best friend during his time as "Kooly," who Shasta never warmed up to and considered a cocky turd likely to get killed by the streets.
Lark, Lucas' other friend, who Shasta also never warmed up to, and may have felt threatened by.
Prince Julian, whose naivete about the state of the world she found both touching and annoying.
[edit] Appearance
Shasta had dark purple hair that falls to the base of her shoulder-blades, and blue eyes. Her build seemed small and slender at first, but a closer glance revealed tough muscels in her arms and legs. She was of average height.
