[edit] History

Nerida was born the second daughter of House Allba, but she may as well have been the eldest, for by the time she was six, her elder sister Jacinthe spent less time at home and more under the protection and company of House Leitayn, a Megam house whose estate bordered on the Darmine channel, and a great friend of her father's. Three years separated her from her oldest brothers, the twins Rylan and Derek, and it would be another four years until a girl was born into the family. And so, she spent her childhood with her other brother, Myles, as her main companion, with the result of her turning out to become a bit of a tomboy, and by virtue of being a daughter, being spoiled by her adoring father.

She was five years old when Rosalie was born, and the more her younger sister grew older, the more Nerida was encouraged to be an example, which obviously meant that her days chasing Myles around with a wooden sword had to become a rarity. While she exchanged her wooden sword with a healing staff and a light magic tome, her tied-back hair for long tresses, her childwear of tunics and pants for ballgowns, she never could get rid of her love of running and riding, though both activities were made difficult when wearing a dress, and her father did not have the heart to forbid his daughters anything.

It was never directly mentioned to her, but by the time she reached her teens, Nerida became aware of her father's desire for her to marry into House Rowan, and to its heir, Byron, in particular. This courtship, however, never did eventuate, for Byron died while on patrol, when Nerida was sixteen. When Rylan broke off his courting of Lady Constance, the Lord of Allba then quickly arranged for both Derek to court Lady Constance instead, and then to appease Rowan further, offer Nerida as a wife to the new heir to Rowan, Lord Kiefer.

Though the courtship could not have begun in more uneasy of circumstances, the two found that they were very comfortable with each other. Kiefer treated her kindly, and she could not deny that she found him very attractive. She began to confide her excitement about the way the courtship was going to Rosalie, who was all ears (so handsome, and brave, and nice, and kind, so solemn but she will soon fix that), and looked forward to his visits, which came often enough with his patrol leading him close to Allba Manor.

It was during one of Kiefer's visits to Allba that Lady Constance, Kiefer's sister and now Derek's wife, made a rare off-hand comment to Nerida that she had never seen Kiefer so at ease since Byron's death. This piece of information startled her, for it had never occured to her that Kiefer may have changed since the death of his older brother. The thought of Kiefer closing off began to worry Nerida, and as the day of their marriage comes closer, she becomes even more determined to draw him out of his shell, because she cannot not bear to think of the possibility of Kiefer shutting himself away from her.

[edit] Personality

Nerida has an unfailingly sunny disposition, a passionate woman, the type of person who inspires affection. She is well loved in her own family, and it is impossible for them to be angry at her for long. While years of lessons in etiquette and dance means that she has all the refinement and poise of a noblewoman, she is also given to bouts of girlish silliness; a joke may have her giggling for hours, an account of her childhood may turn into a full blown fantastic fairytale without warning, and if she is feeling happy enough, she has an extra skip in her step, and dances by herself in her room when she thinks no one can see. She loves conversation and gossip, and can talk to just about anyone for hours, a habit that has led to her brother Myles dubbing her "the mouth that walks". While she is quite content with sewing and dancing and singing to pass the time, there are times where her early tomboyish nature comes back and she secretly thinks that she would much prefer going on a hunt with Myles and Lochie, than have to sit down and embroider flowers.

Her upcoming marriage to Kiefer, though, means that she will one day be Lady of Rowan, where she must stand by her husband and support him, help him rule and bear his children. Though House Rowan have done everything to make her feel welcome, she worries about whether she truly does fit in with the family, whether she is truly ladylike enough to be Kiefer's wife, and what effect Rowan's feud with Nallen will have on their future, and their children's, though Kiefer assures her that he is completely indifferent on Nallen. Mostly, she worries about Kiefer, and although he is still so sweet, and she knows that they share the same feelings, she still cannot help but worry about the possibility that one day, he will be distant towards her as he is with everyone else. And that, considering how dangerous Rowan's lands can be, that Rowan had already lost a son, perhaps, perhaps, Dragons forbid, the day will come when he will be taken from her too soon.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] Appearance

Nerida has long reddish-brown hair going down to her waist that she usually keeps loose, and brown eyes that do a poor job of hiding her thoughts. She is of average height for a Dentorian woman, and has a curvy figure that men find attractive. While her face is very expressive, she does manage to carry a certain kind of dignity about her.
