[edit] Summary
Lucas was formerly Kooly, a street rat of Colndor, and before that, was himself, son of a high-ranking Kanemorian councillor. Due to an accident that occurred while he was running away from a group which had kidnapped him, he lost his memory for some years, until a former friend, Julian, introduced him to his lost and estranged father. Upon regaining his memory, Lucas restarted his activities with Shasta, a member of the group which had kidnapped him. He killed her, only to be killed as well some weeks after her death.
Lucas was killed on Oct. 31, 2006.

[edit] History
Some years ago, there was a boy named Lucas who was the son of a well-known Kanemorian councilor, Rickon. Lucas was bright and anxious to learn, and quickly ascended in his studies, of politics and economics, but mostly of languages. Lucas had a thirst for knowledge and a head for languages, mastering a good number of them with ease. He was close friends with the High Prince, Julian, along with the other councilors' children and nobility of the Kanemorian court.
One day, when he was still fifteen, he had a heated argument with his father about his studies, which had been falling lately. The argument did not end well, and Lucas, in a fit of anger, left the palace to take a walk around the city.
That day, he was kidnapped.
The motive of his kidnappers was never really clear to him. Did they want money? Did they want his life? Who was he, that they should care about him, besides the son of a Kanemorian councilor? The questions were never answered, no matter how he questioned his guards or anyone else. He did, however, make friends with one of his guards, and since neither one knew the other's name, they went by their first initials. He was L, and she was S. Their relationship started out innocent -- jokes, friendly talk -- but slowly developed into something much deeper, that both of them knew would never work. They enjoyed it while they could.
S freed him from his capture eventually, giving him a weapon and her name: Shasta. She told him to flee, and flee he did, though he was persued mercilessly. At one point, tired from running and caught off-guard by an attack from behind, he jarred his head hard enough to lose his memories and most of his language skills.
He stumbled into Colndor roughly two years ago with a very spotty memory, a rather prominent and hastily-stitched scar across one side of his head, and no recollection of the past three years of his life. He was found unconscious in an alleyway during one of the larger bazaars by a young prostitute's daughter named Lark, who wound up bringing him home until he was well enough to get up and around on his own.
When he woke, the girl was surprised when Kooly tried to speak to her using bits and pieces of languages she really didn't understand, mixed in with Trade. He didn't seem to realize that he was mixing languages, but after some effort, Lark was able to piece together that Kooly was running from someone or several someones, and that what he could remember of his past was disjointed and confusing. Even his name was lost to him. She started calling him "Kooly," explaining it was because his language thing was pretty cool.
Kooly lived on the streets since Lark found him, making all sorts of mischief with her and Crow, another street rat that had befriended him. But, slowly though it was, his memory began to return to him, and he began to experience more and more "blank-outs": periods of time when he would "lose track" of himself, and come back unsure of what he had just been doing. He brushed the memories off until the ones of Shasta began to revive, and he was kidnapped by her gang yet again. This time, though, even he didn't know who he was, though he was reunited with Shasta, who had been watching out for him for the past few years.
One time freeing him turned into a second, and he left Shasta just upon remembering his own name. The memories came worse after that, as did the "blank-outs," until they culminated when, upon return to Norey months later, Prince Julian introduced Kooly to his father, Councilor Rickon, and the dam began to break.
Months passed, and Lucas' memory returned bit by bit, including his identity -- and Shasta's. The things they had done with one another, told one another, haunted him day after day. And yet he could not seem to break himself of his need to see Shasta and hold her. Always it was one more time, just one more, and he swore that was where it would end.
The night it ended was the night he killed her.
More time passed, Lucas unable to forget what he had done or forgive himself for it, despite the fact that the action had been no choice of his own. Day-after-day he hated himself deeper and deeper for his own actions, spiraling into despair and self-loathing. Things only began to look up when his friends, Julian and Fayre, encouraged him, taking him out to talk about old times on the Night of the Dead.
That same night, he was killed by Mydra.
[edit] Personality
Lucas was a rather intelligent young man, with his eyes set forward and his mouth set firm. He's very closed to the world, unlike his "former" self, Kooly, whom he could hardly believe he had been. His world was shut off tightly, with a wide fence around it to keep out those who would trespass or seek to know more about him. He had no real reason for this that he gives.
He seemed more interested in books than in people, though a sparse few came close to his heart; Julian, Fayre, Christopher, Crow, Lark, and most of all, Shasta, the woman he loved and would eventually kill because of a war that neither of them wished to take part in. Learning was more of a process than a goal for him, and he did it for the mere sake of doing it; not because languages would get him far, but because they were interesting. Not because history and mathematics would make him accomplished and great, but because they were there.
Lucas preferred to keep everything about him quiet, and so it's a wonder he managed to make many friends at all. Those friends he did have, though, he treasured greatly, and the one woman he had ever loved was his most precious person, even after the day she died.
Lucas died with sorrow in his heart, and his last word was Shasta's name.
