Lewis is a rather notorious bandit in quite a few countries, though his success is that he hasn't been caught. Perhaps some of his associates, but never anyone who is too involved with his core group. The others who aren't necessary to his core group could be left behind; in a 'take one for the team' sort of thing.
Of course, he wasn't a bandit his entire life. He was actually born in a modest village north of the town that he later abandoned Druce's mother in, born to a family of respectable dark magic scholars. He was showing a lot of promise for dark magic himself when his family was attacked and killed when he was twelve, and their house destroyed, leaving him completely alone. He found an axe to defend himself with, and although it was rather heavy, managed to fend off his would-be killer with it, then set off on his own, a boy without a home to go to.
He eventually ran into a group of bandits, and was able to earn respect with them, finding that he liked weilding an axe better (they found a more gainful one for him, and he always did spend more time outdoors than inside studying). With this group he travelled across Dentoria, honing his skills and becoming more enthralled with the "Bandit's life". He was different from the majority of them; all through his life he remained literate, somewhat concerned with keeping records of travels and acquisitions. Since then he has traveled across Eire several times over and is quite familiar with it.
One of the (many) young women he became involved with, Lyssia, had become pregnant. Not quite willing to settle down and become a family man, he left her (well, after hitting her a few times, to be sure) on the steps of a temple in Chiaco. Later she gave birth to his son, Druce, whom he saw on a return trip to Megam some 18 years later, and a bit intrigued by his son, and noticing how the young man seemed to be lost, he pulled him into his group and continued the traveling. He could see that Druce was not quite used to this life, though he began to instruct him anyway.
After his most recent fling in Atsiria turned sour (a sweet young girl named Nadeen later killed by a former lover, one of the few assassin women that he had admired, Delilah) he was becoming bored. Finding a challenge that suited his fancy, he left Druce behind to embark on this "task", which he has been doing for quite a few months now.

Lewis is rather charming and charismatic when he feels like it, or when it is necessary, though he really is quite arrogant. He has been described as a King without a Kingdom, though he really has no intent of getting one for himself, though he probably could if he put his mind to it. Though there is somewhat of a Fatherly manner about him; he can be protective, when he wants to be. He enjoys challenges; he has come to enjoy his life of a bandit and really wouldn't want it any other way. He has a bit of a superiority complex when it comes to women; you'll rarely see one working on his team unless they are highly skilled. Though he doesn't mind the occasional fling, never staying too long with one woman, whether they be a willing partner in the relationship or not. He liked to have the final say in the matter.
