Jarek was the ruling lord of House Sylea after his father was assassinated by House Keir. Both brilliant and mad, Jarek slowly created his own demise as he slid further into feelings of invincibility, until he was indirectly killed by his own brothers, in the center of his own army.

The oldest of House Sylea's five heirs, Jarek was groomed to one day take become the House's Lord from the moment he was born. Though not particularly physically gifted, Jarek was quick of wit and mind, seeming to have a natural thirst for knowledge and a mind crafted to pursue it. While he became quite skilled with riding, elemental magic, and the use of knives, his true strength always had laid in politics, geography, tactics, and mathematics.
His life had been somewhat uneventful. Ignoring the overblown, boisterous personalities of most of his siblings, Jarek had devoted his time to his library, his studies, and, occassionally, his battle skills.
His studies seemed innocent and innocuous to a casual observer, however, in reality, they were darker. Jarek studied politics and history, crafting strategies and subtle plans. All of this was in prepartion for when he plotted from the sidelines with his father to have the male heirs to House Keir killed.
This plot, his greatest moment, has been horribly shadowed by what followed. Once his journal began to link to others, Jarek found himself drawn to Lady Irene of House Taerin, despite knowing that Taerin held blood connections to Keir. By reading back in his journal, and seeing the sketch Aine had drawn months before, Jarek discovered Lady Michelle, a visitor to House Sylea, to actually by Irene, undercover as a spy.
However, rather than turning her in, he gave her time to escape before announcing her identidy. Thier relationship had turned into something neither of them expected, something Jarek had no idea how to deal with, and something that was doubtless to complicate what would doubtless be following ...
Then thanks to her his father died, they started a hilarious affair and Jarek slowly went nuts until he deservedly died.

Jarek seemed polite, soft-spoken and generally a nice guy -- if a little cold and quiet at first. He was actually shrewd, calculating, and ruthless underneath. He was always plotting and anticpating every move his partner could make while engaging in conversation. He very much enjoyed a good intelligent discussion when he could find one, getting quite into them, but was not a great conversationalist besides that, as he tend to talk about 'boring' things and his passion for bizarre subjects seemed somewhat eccentric.
He prevented himself from making any sort of emotional attachments with thequiet distance he kept from just about everyone, involving himself only enough to read the other and determine their motivations and weakenesses. He would continue to be courteous and likeable to someone as long as need be, and never feel as if he owes them anything. His experience with women, until Irene, was completely nonexistant, but not for any lack of their attempts. He was simply not interested in anything that could distract him or force him into connections he's not willing to have, and the conversation of women bored him, he found their obsession with material things silly, possibly because of the nature of his petty sisters. However, Irene, a deeper person than any he'd met before, pushed through those bounderies.
In the final months of his life, Jarek drove everyone but Irene away from him, planning their deaths or exiles. He went mad more and more, until the part of him that loved her was all that was left. His bastard brother, Keane, fearing for his life after one too many threats, plotted with their other brother, Malcolm, and Keran of House Sarrca to betray and murder Jarek.
Jarek was murdered, along with over half of his army, on September 11th.

[edit] Appearance
Jarek had longish red hair and gold-green, catlike eyes, and very handsome bearing and features. He smiled very rarely, and his smiles tended to very small, polite, and no more. When he wore a more evident smile, it usually wasn't good for the person who earned the priveledge to see it.
