Fartgus is the golden boy of House Lireth. The third child of House Lireth had striven to be perfect from the day he was born. Like his father and mother wanted. Like his brother Hasten. Like his sister Amaeyra. Like the only thing he can be. In his world, there was nothing less than perfection, anything else is a disgrace, anything else is a failure. But like everything else in this world, when there is a goal to attain, there has to be a reminder of what that goal looks like.
Since he was very young, his brother Hasten had always been the goal, Lord Elmudd the judge and jury. Hasten was perfect and flawless, always doing everything right, and if he made a mistake, he learned to never do it twice. To the younger brother’s eyes it was an amazing purge of flaws and imperfections, one by one, and as Hasten gained the approval of their father, Fartgus (consciously or not) aspired to reach the same point and surpass it. But because he saw Hasten's methods as being so good that it would have been foolish to attempt to become perfection in that manner, (consciously or not) Fartgus set out to be different. Whereas Hasten was stern and regal, Fartgus was carefree and irreverent. Whereas Hasten held himself aloof and apart, Fartgus laughed and drew everyone under his spell. Whereas Hasten aspired to many weapon disciplines, Fartgus decided to master one and only one. While they had never been particularly close, no, that was Amaeyra’s place, Hasten had always been the leading figure that sent him chasing, chasing all his life.
But if there was a reminder of what that goal looks like, there also needs be a reminder of what it means to fail.
Since they were very young, his sister Elthea had always been the epitome of what it was like to disgrace the very act of living, the world the judge and jury. Elthea was weak, pathetic, never doing anything the way she was supposed to. She failed all the challenges, to his eyes she didn’t even bother to try hard enough, instead moving back and whimper in her weakness. To his eyes it was almost an abomination of life, a failure to live. And a failure should not deserve joy. And she was only a year younger than him, only a year, this fact drove into him a fear of imperfection in himself and the chance that he could be seen to be like her somehow, and Fartgus had always hated her more than ever for this. While he laughed to everyone else, he seldom had a kind word for Elthea, always giving her rather cruel japes and verbal abuse. To him, she was always the abomination that used up all her chances, and failed.
Fartgus’ name had been a subject of much teasing and many japes from all sorts of people as a child. Some say this is the reason why he aspired so much to be popular, but no one had ever gotten a straight answer out of him. He enjoys the company of his other sisters, Amaeyra and Isanae, and misses them dearly when he goes away.
His favourite horse, Loran, is a spotted brown stallion.

Girls have often equated Fartgus to spring sunlight, golden, shining, beautiful. He is known to have broken hearts with just a smile, and he plays with his popularity with amused deliberation. He is popular, but never a playboy --- no, of course not, that would shame the House Lireth, and he will not have it --- he’s simply charming enough and just, just almost-out-of-reach enough that women of the court liked him by default. Which is very deliberate on his part, although he couldn’t care less about them as people. Nor is his charm limited to women and romances...his easygoing, relaxed attitude makes him generally popular by most in the court and the general populace. Inside, of course, he only cares about his image in the eyes of his father. Occasionally he challenges his brother verbally, hoping to see a sign of imperfection and hoping to win...but so far he’s out of luck.
And when he is with his sister, Elthea, he is different from the Fartgus that everyone sees...

Fartgus is, as most people would say, a golden, dashing devil. He has golden hair, the trademark of the Lireth family, which he cut short, and usually dresses in various shades of red and white.
